When I was a youngin’ I attended a day camp during the summers that was a lot of fun. Mostly, I remember the swim days, lots of arts and crafts, and the talent show. One year, they decided to hand out “awards” for all the kids and I won “best storyteller.”
I was not amused and instead I hid, thinking kids hated hearing me talk and tell stories all the time.
In time, I could see that it was a neutral, if not good, skill to have to talk with people and make them comfortable, whether it’s at day camp or while traveling the country.
See, those camp counselors had it right: I’m a storyteller.
And here’s a story I’ve been waiting to tell for many years…
When I first started working as a freelancer I was really gung ho and figured that if I were willing to give 100% and more of myself for my clients, then others would obviously do the same!
Oh, how wrong and naive I was.
I quickly realized that while I would agonize over pricing, check my emails constantly, and continue to give, even after our contract was complete, others did not have the same standards of attention or care.
There were photographers who took months to deliver images, assistants who never completed the tasks assigned, graphic designers who went AWOL… each time I wondered what was wrong with me?
The most frustrating, however, was the coaches. Coaches who said all the right things and told me over and over again that I could find success, 6-figures of income, stability and so much more if only I gave them my credit card number and committed to insane investments.
Then, if I did say yes, it was into the proverbial pen with all the other sheep to be fed a steady diet of recycled content, generic advice and upsells leveraged out of fear and doubt.
Of course you want to go to the next level of coaching, they would proclaim, you don’t want to be… left behind?
Don’t you want to stay in the community? They’d ask, as if belonging only came with a five-figure investment straight to their bank account.
Over and over again I would see this dynamic play out and yes, more than once, I convinced myself that this time is different. This person will help me and my biz, only to find out that each question was answered with a deflection (“you can Google that…” or “I’m sure I’ve talked about that before…”) instead of real answers or the ever present upsell that promised you could get a strategy, personal attention, or even a direct answer if only you paid more, more, more.
And I’m not talking about a $15 book or $50 workshop, I mean “if you really want direct help on your business then it’s $8,000 extra for 4 hours.” Said with a straight face.
After years of seeing this, I became frustrated and jaded, knowing that if I could give 100% of what I promise to the few, select clients I worked with, there had to be a way to leverage that to deliver to many clients.
After all, so many entrepreneurs were struggling and getting caught in the trap of spending thousands and thousands of dollars at ONE event or in ONE area of their business.
As a result, I, and entrepreneurs like me, had over-invested in under-delivered promises, leaving little income for investing in other assets like a new website, team members, or the software I needed to grow.
And then something amazing happened. I met a fellow entrepreneur who not only understood all those struggles, but had a program designed to deliver exactly the experience that I had so badly needed not to 5 or 10 people but to hundreds of entrepreneurs, all while maintaining high quality.
And since 2014 I’ve been involved, in one way or another, in supporting and growing this community along.
I’m not going to give you a bunch of promises or my perspective, because… honestly? I think a little healthy skepticism is normal.
Instead I want to invite you to try it out.
For 2 weeks we’re running a live, virtual event just for entrepreneurs who are tired of the bullshit, tired of the 3-part video series that no one ever finishes and ready to actually do something.
Oh. My. Stars. Like, accomplish something meaningful? Actually have a goal in mind and then get it done with actionable steps, easy to use systems, live support from experts, encouragement and PRIZES?!
Yeah, and it’s free.
So this is my call to my fellow entrepreneurs who are sick of the status quo and ready to accelerate their growth.
Like, what?
